IT System Test Engineer

In this contractor assignment, you will support general testing activities, including test automation support for one of our platforms. We have a mix of applications hosted on and across mainframe and client/server technologies. Work may include general testing activities and test automation support for multi-platform projects from 100-1000 hrs., small-scale projects from 50-500 hrs., and production problem fixes from 20-100 hrs.This role requires strong development and testing skills and expertise to drive the evolution of the test automation frameworks.

Knowledge and Experience Expected:

  • Basic knowledge of computer coding/programming languages and software development concepts

  • Basic knowledge of common testing methods, terminology and industry practices

  • Basic knowledge of data structures, data management practices, system interaction patterns and interfaces

Work experience requirements include:

  • Service Management Teams deal with a very dynamic and fluid set of work and prioritizations. The system test engineer must be flexible to respond to these ever-changing conditions.

  • Possess knowledge and understanding of subsystems and interfaces, and possesses a basic understanding of vendor software integrations and interactions.

  • Good organization skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and/or assignment simultaneously using a variety of SDLC (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, ITIL Incident/Problem Management Processes).

  • Must be able to work under general supervision in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities. Attention to detail.

  • Based on business needs, may perform as both System Test Engineer and Quality Assurance Analyst for a project.

  • Interprets and manipulates computer program's or system's components with assistance.

  • Interacts closely with peers and business customers in the system analysis process and helps to gather requirements that facilitate system testing.

  • Identifies and makes recommendations to address typical testability challenges.

  • Participates in requirements reviews, design reviews, systems analysis and testing review discussions. Follows the established Test Strategy and risk analysis to guide testing efforts for assigned work.

  • Provides status and results of testing activities.


Required Skills:

  • Testing: Familiarity with software testing techniques (unit, integration, system, user acceptance, etc.) required

  • Experience in developing or maintaining automation frameworks and scripts

  • Working knowledge of Visual Studio

  • Programming experience with C#

Preferred Skills:

  • Programming:o Windows C# & .NET a plus. IBM Mainframe (COBOL/CICS/JCL)o JSONo Object-oriented design and development experience

  • Web Services: Web API and WCF experience (or other SOAP and/or REST-based service experience)

  • Database: SQL Server, DB2 experience and Relational database experience

  • Testing: Test automation experience

skills: Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Information Technology discipline or related field of study (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, MIS) and a minimum four years of related work experience designing, programming, testing and supporting software programs and applications.

  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of six years related work experience designing, programming, testing and supporting software programs or applications may be accepted.
