Junior Estimator

I have a client in Crofton, MD in need of a Junior Estimator for their team. This a Direct Hire opportunity. Our client is a versatile contractor that provides reliable and quality service to meet their clients' ever changing needs. Using their most valuable asset, their people, they consistently exceed expectations through communication, problem solving and teamwork. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months of estimating experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist estimating department with commercial bidding process.

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and make site visits for in-field measurements and site evaluation.

  • Download all project bid documents and save them on the company server.

  • Review and analyze project drawings, specifications, and narratives to determine overall scope of products of products and services that we will provide on a case by case basis.

  • Contact client as needed to clarify scope items and discrepancies between bid documents.

  • Perform plan takeoffs and develop quantities for bids.

  • Contact vendors and subcontractors to solicit pricing for project related goods and services. Save all quotes on the company server

  • Build proposals using company software and catalogue of items/assemblies.

  • Enter all subcontractor and supplier costs quotes received.

  • Prepare written narrative/notes for each activity item that describes the work being performed and references all pertinent plans, details, and specifications.

  • Review proposals with department head prior to submission.

  • Follow up with client to ensure they have received proposal.

  • Track proposals and call clients to request an update on project status and to gain an understanding of whether our proposal is being considered for award.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills:

The Junior Estimator should have excellent customer service skills. They should be good in verbal and oral communication. They should have good time management and scheduling skills. They should be able to work under pressure. They should be proficient in using computer applications.

Qualifications:

A junior estimator should be good in mathematics, especially algebra, calculus and statistics. They should also be knowledgeable about computers and electronic equipment used in construction, from processors and circuit boards to hardware and software. A junior estimator should have basic knowledge about building and construction. Bachelor's degree required.
