Technical Manager

Permanent position: Industry leading privately held automotive supplier located in the SW Michigan area is currently looking for a Technical Welding Manager due to the amount of growth they have experienced and a very strong sales forecast. This position will be a integral part of both the R&D and Manufacturing teams. Ideal candidate will have experience with conceptual engineering of welding and how future metal & aluminum products will be designed and built. Ideal candidate will have a Master's or Ph.D in material science or welding/materials engineering with a minimum of 5 to 7 years experience.

Responsibilities for the Technical Manager

  • Researching current welded products and future welded and joined products for both steel and aluminum.

  • Conceptual engineering

  • Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.

  • Performs experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.

  • Good understanding of FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW is required

Requirements for the Technical Manager

  • Masters Degree- Welding, Materials, Material Science- Ph.D would be a plus

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Welding Engineering- Technical experience

  • Work closely with Machine R&D, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Marketing and Manufacturing personnel to review products for sale or to investigate potential product issues

  • Knowledge of industry standards for engineering and quality, as well as applicable codes and specifications

  • Knowledge of various welding processes, cutting processes and procedures is preferred
