Sales Engineer

Permanent position: A prominent, high-technology capital equipment manufacturer is hiring a Sales Engineer to serve the Detroit market. The Sales Engineer will be responsible for business development and account management. The role will interface directly with customers to understand their needs, and communicate those needs to Engineering colleagues overseas (Spain). The Sales Engineer will manage existing accounts as well as developing new business. The candidate should be mechanically inclined and able to help with resolving equipment issues. Metal cutting experience is a plus. This is an opportunity to work directly with the Managing Director for the region and own this territory. There is limited travel- 20-30% to the beautiful Basque region of Spain.

Responsibilities for the Sales Engineer

  • Calls on management representatives such as, engineers, project managers, and other professional and technical personnel at commercial, industrial and other establishments; to convince prospective client of desirability and practicability of products and services offered

  • Provides technical advice on company products and services, modifications, applications, design, and other problems

  • Serve as the primary customer contact in the Detroit area

  • Ability to become the voice of the customer, to understand and communicate their needs to colleagues overseas

  • Develop sales plans for the assigned territory

Requirements for the Sales Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering or Business Management OR equivalent experience

  • 4-6 years' experience in capital equipment sales to automotive and related companies

  • Metal cutting experience is a definite plus

  • Excellent sales, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills
