Fire Protection Engineer

Contract position: Engineering client is looking for a Fire Protection Engineer or Designer to join their team. You need 3-10+ years of experience designing comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety. Client prefers candidates local to Manhattan or willing to commute. Candidates that are not local will still be considered.

Responsibilities for the Fire Protection Engineer

  • Design and specify fire suppression systems including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, fire pumps, and storage tanks on a wide variety of project types

  • Perform hydraulic calculations and work with outside resources to incorporate special hazard systems

  • Design and specify conventional and addressable fire alarm systems which incorporate voice evacuation and mass notification

  • You will also be involved in reviewing national (NFPA) and local (NYCBC) fire suppression codes to develop system requirements

  • Assist in the construction administration process including review of contractor shop drawings, field inspection, and testing and commissioning

  • Assist field personnel in resolving design related installation issues

  • Apply sound fire protection engineering principles to troubleshoot and solve client related problems

Requirements for the Fire Protection Engineer

  • 3-10+ years of experience designing comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke management, and life safety as an Engineer or Designer

  • You need to be proficient with using REVIT design software

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited university is preferred

  • Knowledge of special suppression systems such as foam, water spray, water mist, clean agent, and carbon dioxide is preferred

  • You will be expected to travel 15-20% of the time from the NYC office to the Morristown, NJ office
