Reports to COO/President (COO is 30% of the time in Japan, 70% San Mateo)
Salary - $200K - some flex
Must have Oncology experience
Extensive drug development experience required
Looking for a candidate with 15 years of program management experience in advancing clinical candidates from phase II through approval and some commercial PM experience as well.
25% Travel to San Diego, Japan and Germany
Pipeline Management & Leadership
Member of the Pipeline Management leadership team providing direction for the project management group and mentoring/leading project managers and alliance managers within the assigned TA
Oversees development and execution of improvement initiatives within project management and partners with other departments.
Assess, develop, and implement tools designed to facilitate operational excellence initiatives within project management
Strategic Direction
Leads and contributes to the development of the functional project strategy, therapeutic area strategy and portfolio management
Leads translation of strategy into project plans and deliverables, communicates plans to TA-oversight and governance where appropriate
Coordinates closely with other project leads (to identify and exploit best practices in management, cross-portfolio opportunities, and joint strategy and planning)
Understands competitive benchmarks for Disease Area and Therapy Area for cycle times, internal costs and risks
Challenges team and functional representatives on assumptions for time, costs and risk to optimize the product development plan
Project Management
Ability to create, coordinate, and maintain an integrated product plan and to control or respond to changes in strategy and scope
Understanding of financial and resource planning systems and processes and ability to coordinate project-level budget/resource estimates and manage actuals vs. plan
Ability to manage teams and individuals in a matrix environment, ability to track team performance against objectives, use of effective meeting management tools and techniques, and knowledge of decision-making and conflict resolution techniques
Ability to maintain project information, and to integrate and distribute appropriate information to senior management and team members
Shares best practices to ensure consistency and rigor in processes, data analysis, and decision-making across the project teams
Previous experience will include:
Demonstrated ability to lead a project management organization
Knowledge of the interdependencies in the drug development processes with demonstrated ability to oversee and coordinate multiple projects and alliances that are running concurrently
Possess strong team leadership and collaboration skills
Proven commitment to stakeholder satisfaction and the highest ethical standards
Relationship management and demonstrated influencing skills for strategic cross-functional and critical projects
Strong knowledge of project management principles, practices, tools and methodologies

Position Summary .
Oversee project and portfolio management across the assigned TA-Oncology
Oversee pipeline planning, resource and capacity management activities within the TA-Oncology
Ensure effective pipeline analysis, tracking, portfolio analytics and pipeline sustainability modeling
Drive use of PM tools and systems and risk management by project managers and deliver key output for project & resource management by TA leadership team
Oversee management of key external alliances from Research through Development
Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders in the TA in order to optimally deliver projects based on robust science and plans
Collaborate with Senior Leadership, governance bodies, and cross-functional areas
Develop talent on team to ensure ability to handle increasingly complex projects and succession planning
Recruit, lead, motivate, manage, coach and retain a high performing team; create an environment in which employees can successfully achieve professional growth
qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Masters/Ph.D. or equivalent preferred, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required. 12-15 years related industry experience along with 4 plus years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, and programs or directing the allocation of resources
