Corporate Controller



International non-profit located in the heart of Washington, DC, seeking an experienced, system savvy Controller.

Responsibilities include reviewing account reconciliations, account analysis, posting investment and grant related journal.

  • Maintain the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

  • Provide assistance of the audit of International offices (statutory and donor), including audit requests

  • Provide assistance to International offices

  • Manage Statutory reporting

  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures, incorporate internal controls and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions

  • Responds to inquiries from the CEO, CFO, and other stakeholders regarding financial results and reporting requests.

  • Manages global financials

  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures, system implementations and features to enhance the workflow of the department.

  • Provide training to new and existing staff in US and overseas as needed.

  • Assist with developing a new process for analyzing financial statements on a monthly and quarterly basis and variance commentary

  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls

  • International site visits as determined based on project need


  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting

  • 7+ years accounting/finance experience; CPA preferred

  • Elimination and consolidation experience in foreign currencies

  • In-depth working knowledge of accounting policies and procedures (US GAAP required and IFRS preferred)

  • Experience working in documentation of procedures and internal control

  • Non-profit experience highly desired

  • Experience in consolidations, foreign currency translation and exposure, and consolidation software required

  • External audit experience required

  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

  • Excellent problem solving skills and ability to communicate solutions and pros/cons of those solutions to Management

  • Dependability in schedule required and flexibility for occasional international conference calls is appreciated

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus and able to write clear, precise, concise email to internal customers whose English is not their first language

  • Experience working with international business environments and cultures preferred
